    Road Rage or Moral Collapse?

The horrendous sequence of events whereby a young man driving his luxury vehicle Thar, caught on camera hitting a scooter rider coming from the opposite direction and knocking him to the ground, deliberately reversed his vehicle to hit and ramming the victim again, leaving him seriously injured. This bizarre incident as watched over a viral CCTV footage is not simply an extreme criminal act but a grim reflection of moral erosion among today’s youth, making the society numb and desensitized.

What is more shocking is the fact that the victim had to wait for his relatives to shift him to hospital as no onlooker took the initiative to do the needful in this hour of need. It is really unfortunate that road rage has become a common scenario whereby the individuals lose temper and show unchecked aggression and lack of empathy only to justify their false ego.

This disposition of a person could be because of wrong upbringing or bearing an arrogant and sadistic mentality, as the case in discussion. How could a young man even think of hitting the victim an elderly man soon after the victim had been knocked to the ground after recklessly causing a mishap? What was seen in the video, this was no less than a murderous attempt by a spoiled youth!

Sadly, but true, today the roads and streets, instead of being a shared space of movement, have become battlegrounds for inflated egos and impulsive reactions. This particular act which surely was not of panic but of calculated vengeance highlighted the worrying trend in the generation next which has become disconnected from values like patience, accountability, and human decency.

It is totally unacceptable that people should indulge in violence as a response to inconveniences. Although, the cops should handle this case with utter sincerity as this would set an example for others in the Temple city.

The punishment in this case should be exemplary though under the law of the land so that the same deters others from behaving in such a manner which was dangerous for the fellow commuters on the roads. It is good that the police have booked the man under the necessary sections of law and arrested his father, who was the owner of the vehicle because the accused is absconding. It is imperative that the police trace the accused as soon as possible and ensure his jail term as per the law, which is something very important for teaching a lesson to others having similar intentions and such animal mindset.
