Jammu Tawi, Jan 29: With just 4 days remaining for the start of the second budget session of the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu Kashmir (J&K), the rift between the coalition partners NC and Cong seems to have widened further as so far these coalition partners have not yet talked to each other.
Earlier, the party sources from both NC and Cong had said that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, will chair a meeting of the MLAs of both these coalition partners before the start of the budget session at Jammu.
The second budget session of the J&K Assembly is scheduled to start from 2nd of February onwards at Jammu.
“So far we have not received any information from our coalition partner, the NC, regarding the meeting to be chaired by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah,” JKPCC President, Tariq Karra, informed the Northlines, while adding, “We are still hopeful that the meeting of NC-Cong MLAs would be held before the start of the budget session”.
It may be mentioned that the Cong, the coalition partner of the NC, had not joined the Omar Abdullah led government, which was formed in the UT of J&K in October 2024.
The differences between both these coalition partners deepened further in the Rajya Sabha elections last year after the ruling NC did not give Congress the seat to its choosing as supporting partner.
Pertinently, the Speaker of the J&K Assembly will chair the All Party Meeting tomorrow i.e on 30th of January for taking all political parties on board to ensure smooth conduct of the budget session but so far the coalition partners, the NC and Cong, are still engaged in working out their differences.
There are 41 MLAs of NC, Cong has 6, PDP has 04, CPI (M) has 1, AAP has 1, while seven independent MLAs are there in the 90 member strength of the J&K Assembly.
The BJP being the main Opposition party has 29 MLAs in the J&K Assembly, the highest so far it has in the J&K Assembly.
