Baramulla, Sep 11: Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ex- Congress leader, said on Sunday that he will not commit to restore Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which was abrogated by the Centre in 2019.
On his whirlwind tour of Jammu and Kashmir, he was addressing a public meeting in Baramulla. Former CM Azad stated that he will not mislead the people about Article 370, since only a government with a two-thirds majority in Parliament can assure its restoration. However, he and his new party will strive hard to restore the erstwhile state status to Jammu Kashmir.
“To restore Article 370, 350 Lok Sabha votes and 175 Rajya Sabha votes would be required, and he does not have those numbers,” Azad remarked.
He will not raise matters over which he has no authority, according to the former Rajya Sabha MP. “Some individuals have suggested that I don't talk about Article 370; I want to assure them that Azad does not deceive people for political benefit,” remarked the former J&K chief minister.
“Neither I nor the Congress party nor any other regional parties can give you back Article 370,” he added.
