Amritsar, July 4: A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire on his family on Friday, killing his son and injuring his wife and daughter-in-law, according to police reports.
The incident occurred near a police station on Majitha Road. Police said the accused, identified as Tarsem Singh, fired multiple shots during a family dispute.
The victims were rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where Singh’s 40-year-old son was declared dead. His wife and daughter-in-law are being treated for gunshot injuries.
A police team deployed at a nearby checkpoint acted swiftly, overpowering Singh and seizing his licensed firearm at the scene.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Rishab Bhola confirmed that Singh, who had married twice, was involved in a longstanding property dispute with his first wife. “He fired at his first wife, son, and daughter-in-law during the altercation,” Bhola stated.
The injured were rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where Singh’s son was declared dead. The wife and daughter-in-law are currently receiving treatment.
Singh is in police custody, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
