Malayalam music lovers received sad news as renowned vocalist and composer KG Jayan passed away at the age of 89. Fondly known as the “Jaya-Vijaya duo” along with his twin brother, Jayan was a stalwart of Carnatic music who enthralled audiences for decades.
Jayan began his musical journey as a young boy under the tutelage of famous Gurus. He went on to develop a distinctive style and created over 1000 innovative compositions. Many of Jayan's works, especially his devotional songs, have remained extremely popular among Malayalis for generations. Songs dedicated to Lord Ayyappa like “Ayyanu Thunayay” and “Mamala Vaazhum” are cherished by devotees even today.
Along with his brother, Jayan collaborated with legends like Yesudas and Leela. Their tracks set new benchmarks and established them as doyens of the genre. Jayan was also renowned for his versatility, having created music for films as well. His talent was recognized with honors from prestigious bodies.
