Punjab :Man dies after being attacked with sharp-edged weapons in Bathinda

    Date:

On Sunday evening, Bathinda district of was shaken by a tragic incident of violence that claimed the life of a 40-year-old man. Jaspal Singh Athiyani died after sustaining severe injuries from an attack by sharp-edged weapons carried out in public view near Maur Mandi.

Eyewitnesses said Athiyani was near the truck union area when two individuals launched an unprovoked assault on him. Video footage that emerged on social media shows the assailants repeatedly striking the victim while he lay helplessly on the ground. Though Athiyani was rushed to a hospital, doctors declared him brought dead due to the extent of his wounds.

Police believe the attack was the result of past hostilities between the deceased and the accused. Athiyani had faced charges in a murder case from two years ago. Officials from Maur police station have registered a complaint against six named individuals and an investigation is underway to apprehend them.

The gruesome nature of the daylight assault has shaken the entire state. Leaders cutting across party lines condemned the violence and called on Punjab's Aam Aadmi Party government to take stricter measures to curb such incidents. People are deeply distressed by the apparent rise in criminal activities and the failure of law and order mechanisms to provide even a basic sense of security.

If brazen acts of violence can freely occur in broad daylight in public settings like truck unions, it indicates that anti-social elements no longer feel threatened by the specter of legal repercussions. Urgent steps are needed to overhaul the policing system and strengthen the legal deterrent against violence before people take the law into their own hands out of desperation. The administration must act before an already tense law and order situation spirals further out of control.
