JAMMU, Apr 18: The local administration on Saturday demolished the residential property of an alleged drug peddler in Jammu as part of an intensified crackdown on narcotics, officials said.
The action was carried out in Belicharana under heavy security deployment, where a joint team of civil administration and police used bulldozers to raze the property owned by Shamsdin alias Pappi.
Officials said that, in addition to demolishing the house, adjoining grass huts were removed and a few two-wheelers were seized from the premises.
The demolition is part of the ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 11 to curb drug trafficking and dismantle financial networks linked to the illegal trade.
“Shamsdin, locally known as Pappi, is currently lodged in jail. He was involved in drug-related activities, and the property constructed by him was built using proceeds of crime. We have demolished the property,” the local tehsildar told reporters.
Shamsdin, a resident of the border area of RS Pura, had constructed the property in Belicharana, officials added.
According to officials, more than 150 properties of drug peddlers have been either seized or demolished in the Jammu region over the past year.
Earlier this week, the Lieutenant Governor directed the police to identify top drug peddlers at every police station and take action within 30 days to dismantle their networks.
He also warned of strict measures against traffickers, including revocation of passports, driving licences, Aadhaar cards, and arms licences.
