The Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has announced an emergency power shutdown of the 220 kV D/C Barn–Kishenpur transmission line (both circuits) for critical works related to the ongoing four-lane expressway project under Bharatmala Pariyojna.

According to a communiqué issued by the Office of the Chief Engineer (Distribution), JPDCL Jammu, the shutdown will be observed continuously from 6:00 AM on August 29 to 6:00 PM on August 30, 2025.

The shutdown has been necessitated to facilitate detaching of an extremely critical tower (location No. 31) and execution of stringing work of newly erected towers No. 31/1 and 32 by the EPC contractor of NHAI. These works are required on an urgent basis as part of the development and upgradation of the **Four Lane Access Controlled Expressway (NH-44) from Sidhara to Ban village section.

The scheduled outage will result in a curtailment of around 350 MW load, and several areas are expected to be affected, including Canal Grid Station, Pounichack, Katra, Reasi, Rajouri, Draba, Jourian, and Barn. The shutdown may also impact parts of Jammu district and adjoining regions of Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar.

However, the JPDCL has assured that power supply to essential installations will be managed in a phased manner to minimize inconvenience.

Officials emphasized that the shutdown is subject to fair weather conditions and will strictly follow safety
