New Delhi, Mar 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been ranked the world’s most popular democratic leader with a 68 per cent approval rating, according to a latest survey by US-based analytics firm Morning Consult.
The findings, part of the “Global Leader Approval Rating Tracker,” are based on data collected between March 2 and 8, 2026, reflecting a seven-day moving average of public opinion among adults in surveyed countries. The survey cited Modi’s sustained domestic popularity and growing international recognition as key factors behind his top ranking.
Switzerland’s President Guy Parmelin and South Korea’s President Lee Jae-myung were jointly placed second with approval ratings of 62 per cent each.
The tracker showed a significant gap between Modi and several Western leaders. US President Donald Trump registered 39 per cent approval, while UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stood at 24 per cent. French President Emmanuel Macron ranked among the lowest with 17 per cent approval and 75 per cent disapproval.
Modi’s net approval remained notably high, with only 26 per cent expressing disapproval—considerably lower than most other leaders in the survey.
The latest ranking follows a similar report from July 2025, where Modi led with a 75 per cent approval rating. In that survey, Lee Jae-myung secured second place with 59 per cent, followed by Argentina’s President Javier Milei at 57 per cent, while Donald Trump was placed eighth with 44 per cent approval.
Modi, who began his third consecutive term in May 2024, has also crossed 4,079 days in office, surpassing Indira Gandhi to become India’s second-longest serving Prime Minister in an uninterrupted term, behind Jawaharlal Nehru. (Agencies)
