PM Modi attacks Congress over delays in Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project

JAIPUR, Dec 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress during a public meeting in Dadiya, Jaipur, accusing the party of failing to take action for the welfare of farmers and hindering progress in critical development projects. Modi specifically pointed to the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), alleging that its prolonged delay was a direct reflection of the Congress’ lack of commitment to improving conditions for farmers.

“The ERCP was delayed for so long by the Congress, which is proof of their intentions. They talk big about farmers but neither do anything for them nor allow others to do so,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister was in Rajasthan to mark the completion of one year of the state’s BJP-led government under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. During the event, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 24 projects related to energy, roads, railways, and water, worth over ₹46,400 crore. Among the key projects, the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal project will provide both irrigation and drinking water to 21 districts in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Modi contrasted the BJP’s approach, which focuses on dialogue and cooperation, with Congress’ alleged tendency to stir water disputes between states. “The BJP’s policy is to foster cooperation, not conflict. As soon as BJP governments were formed in MP and Rajasthan, an agreement was reached on the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal project,” he stated.

The Prime Minister further criticized the Congress for blocking the Narmada river project in Gujarat when he was the Chief Minister, which aimed to address water shortages in the state. “Instead of solving the problem, the Congress promoted water disputes and deprived our farmers of benefits,” he said.

Modi also expressed confidence in the BJP’s growing public support, pointing to the party’s significant victories in recent state elections. “The BJP has earned public support in state after state. For the first time in 60 years, the country has given the BJP a third consecutive term in the Lok Sabha,” he said, adding that BJP’s governance model is seen as a guarantee of good governance across India.

The Prime Minister also lauded the efforts of the Rajasthan government, under Bhajanlal Sharma, in its first year, describing it as a strong foundation for future progress. “Bhajanlal ji and his team have worked hard to steer the development of Rajasthan in a new direction,” he said.
