Plug the Lacunae!

Date:

Considering the situation in and , it looks that the government is struggling to fight corruption as wrong doers seem to have outnumbered those who are tracking and taming the corrupt because day in day out corruption cases are being surfacing making it clear that making J&K corruption-free is still a distant dream.

In this context, the third case in less than a week exposing another unethical in the admissions for MBBS Course in J&K has raised the eyebrows of many as the Medical Board of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has detected one more candidate who had secured provisional admission in MBBS Course in GMC Udhampur, with fake disability certificate.

It is pertinent to mention that a few days back two such cases surfaced in the same GMC, telling the sordid state of affairs in the Union Territory as in all three cases, the provisional admission to the prestigious MBBS Course was given to these erring candidates marring the entire process of selection and telling the vagueness of the tall claims made by the helmsmen that corruption has become a thing of the past.

Reportedly, in the latest case the erring candidate was provisionally admitted under PwD (Persons with Benchmark Disability) category in GMC Udhampur but when he was examined for his disability claim by the Medical Board of GMC Jammu on the request of Principal GMC Udhampur, it was found that the case is bogus although the disability certificate was issued by CMO Jammu mentioning disability of 40 percent.

With this case and the two similar ones catching the eyes, it has become clear that there is a big ‘Jhol' in the system and by only cancelling the aforesaid admissions will not serve the purpose of ending such wrongdoing as the need of the time is to go to the roots of the issue.

The big question is that how the CMO Jammu has given such a bogus certificate? If the confusion is justified then the government should come out with proper directions for issuing such certificate ending the scope of difference in opinion and if such a thing already existed then the wrongdoer CMO and all others should be taken to task, as this seems to be a big nexus of unprincipled or a scam, which requires thorough probe henceforth.

Plugging in all the gaps and punishing the culprits should be the objective of the government as this is not a small thing that three such cases have come to fore and the government will shun responsibility by simply cancelling the admissions.
