Physical distance go for a toss, beeline outside liquor shops in Jammu

Jammu Tawi, Jun 02: Chaos and long queues were witnessed outside liquor stores across Jammu as standalone shops opened their counters after a month of Corona curfew.

The sport report said that people were standing tightly in long queues outside wine shops after authorities decided to ease out restrictions.

They said that on Wednesday people were queuing up in large numbers, giving social distancing norms a toss at most of the places outside the liquor shops.

Two liquor shops at Parade area in Jammu witnessed nearly 200-300 persons standing in double queue waiting for the turn. People were seen taking out their lot even in bulk holding 4 to 6 bottles with jubilations as if they have won the jackpot. Though 3-4 police cops  were deployed at each shop, they could not help to maintain the physical distance among the people in queue, however, all in the queue were wearing atleast a mask.

Similar reports poured in from Satwari, New Plot and Janipur areas.

They said that people waited for hours outside the shops to get their turn to get liquor.

They said that a large number of people made a beeline in Akhnoor area of Jammu at liquor stores where social distancing norms were not being followed.

Eyewitnesses said that despite witnessing over 1000 deaths due to Covid, the people in Jammu were seen gathering outside liquor shops just like nothing had happened.

Locals said that the government must take care of the matter and should book people who aren’t following Covid appropriate behaviour as they can’t bear one more lock down now.

Pertinently people have been protesting against the opening of new liquor shops in Jammu.
