Petrol pump owners threaten to shut on Sundays

New Delhi: Petrol pump owners in the country have served a strict threat to the government that the fuel outlets will remain shut every Sunday from May 10 till their demands related with hike in commissions are not met. It automatically translates into vehicle owners being unable to avail petrol on Sundays resulting in hardship for them.

In addition, petrol pump owners have said that they will work only for eight hours in a day all across the country post May 10.

May 10 will be observed as “No Purchase Day.”

According to a report in the Times of , Petrol Dealers' Association said, “We had withdrawn the strike threat in January after oil marketing companies assured to revise dealer commission rates. But nothing happened in four months.”

Petroleum dealers had earlier called off their nationwide strike in the month of November last year as oil companies had promised to look into their demand for hiking commission before December 31.

The petrol and diesel retailers claim that they are unable to bear the brunt of increase in cost of lighting, human resources and other facilities at the filling stations in the multiple shifts.
