The Pakistani fighter killed in a confrontation with security forces in the higher areas of Surankote sub-division in J&K’s Poonch district was identified as Abu Zarrara, also known as Abu Zar, said the army on Tuesday.
An Army spokesman while confirming Abi Zar’s killing in the encounter said that one AK assault rifle, four magazines, hand grenade “and other incriminating material” has been recovered in the ongoing operation.
The encounter broke out early this morning after security forces cordoned the area following a tip off about the presence of militants there.
As the security forces approached the suspected spot, the militant “tried to escape from the cordon after resorting to heavy firing on forces but he was gunned down in retaliatory fire”, an official said.
Zar, he said, was active in this area from past some time with Army terming his killing as a major success.
