The product of French Revolution and held to be a great victor, Napolean, when met his downfall , said -‘ No one but myself be blamed for my fall. I have been my own greatest enemy , the cause of my disastrous fate.’ Actually one after another success in the battles bred in Napoleon the higher ambition of initiating his own dynasty after his name like any king. Holding himself as an equivalent to a king, he first wished to wed Russian Grand Duchess . But Tsar rejected him. However, later he somehow managed to have Marie Louise, the daughter of Hapsburg Emperor of Austria, for his wife . But she too deserted him when she found him in trouble. His attachment with his family also got to be the cause of his downfall. In the words of Jawaharlal Nehru- ‘He advanced his own brothers and sisters in the most absurd way, although they were thoroughly incompetent. The brothers were made kings and rulers by Napoleon. Almost every one of them played him false and deserted him when he was in trouble.’ (p- 449 ;‘Glimpses of world history’: Jawaharlal Nehru).
However, as far as the family of Jawaharlal Nehru himself is concerned, Sonia Gandhi and her children are seen to be firm to overlook the lesson that the book offer regarding the perils of over attachment to the family through Napoleon’s life . Be it remembered that the letters written by Nehru to his daughter, Indira Gandhi, later came into the form of the book under the title, ‘Glimpses of world history’. And the foreword of which was written by Sonia Gandhi herself.
Going little back to the Congress history that one with even a little knowledge of politics knew that Shashi Tharoor would have been far better choice for the future of Congress party. But, the Gandhi family preferred to care own interest to party’s. And when the Congressmen saw the family’s hand on the shoulder of its loyal to the core of the heart that is 82 years old Khadge, then how could Tharoor have come victorious! Thereafter , banking on the same approach regarding the selection of Rajysabha candidates , what first family did could not make its loyalist Rajdeep Sardesai remain silent. He said -‘‘To know difference in style of functioning between BJP and Cong just look at their Rajyasabha lists: BJP rewards many with strong local connect in their home state; Cong accommodates many who don’t even belong to a state. One is a sharp ‘political’ list; the other ‘loyalist’ adjustment.’ Among the ones enjoying close affiliation with Gandhi family, why Sardesai had to comment so needs no explanation. Even though Gandhi family felt no urgency to grow cautious. They continued to look into and the loyalists around the family to bolster and further extend its grip in the party.
And now before the world is Trump to be going Napolean way. The former US national security adviser ( NSA ) , JK Sulivan, went on record to slap the allegation that before the country he had put ahead the interest of his family . For the last so many years US had gradually curated with India the mutual terms on technology, talent , economy and on diplomatic front. Before the strategic challenge of China that India alone was the most efficient partner for US in the region. But for the sake of strengthening the base to his family business in Pakistan that he did not even shy away from harming the interest of country itself. This has shaken the faith of one of his most trusted allies, he added ; ‘ now even Germany and Japan will get sacred lest tomorrow that be happened with them also.’
