Non-locals voting rights? – PAGD’s 2nd meet in Jammu

Date:

Tawi, September 9: The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) will hold its second meeting on Saturday at the Jammu residence of Conference president and Lok Sabha member Dr Farooq Abdullah in an attempt to rally more political and social parties against the inclusion of non-locals on the electoral roll in Jammu and .
M Y Tarigami, senior CPI (M) leader and PAGD convener and spokesman, stated that the meeting agenda is already known.
“There is no clarification in the Chief Electoral Officer's declaration regarding the rights of 25 thousand new voters and the right to customarily live.” “”We will acquire firsthand knowledge from party comrades who recently attended the Jammu All Party Meeting,” stated the official. “We feel that including non-natives on the voting roster is superfluous because many states retain rights for natives alone, yet it appears that the government is making an unnecessary distinction between non-natives and natives.””
Tarigami stated that the meeting will be held at the Jammu residence of PAGD president Farooq Abdullah, and that almost everyone, including former minister and president of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party Choudhary Lal Singh, Harsh Dev Singh of the AAP, the Balwant Mankotia group, and Ghulam Nabi Azad's fraction, will be invited.
Except for the BJP, Tarigami stated that every segment and political social group is welcomed.
“We are not inviting the BJP because it is a party of the system,” he explained.
“The all-party conference is part of continuing negotiations to develop a single strategy to stand together against any drive to add foreigners in electoral rolls in order to affect election outcomes,” Tarigami, said.
The PAGD will meet on the subject for the second time this year. Previously, on August 22, the alliance held a similar meeting in Srinagar, which was attended by the Congress, Shiv Sena, and Akali Dal (Mann), in addition to all of its components.
PAGD, a coalition of five political parties including the NC, PDP, CPI(M), CPM, and Awami National Conference, is advocating for the reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir's special status under the Indian Constitution.
The BJP has criticised the PAGD and accused the NC, Peoples Democratic Party, and other parties of promoting misinformation in order to poison people's minds against the inclusion of non-local voters in the amended election records.
The controversy erupted after Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Electoral Officer Hirdesh Kumar stated that the Union territory is likely to receive around 25 lakh additional voters, including outsiders, following the special summary revision of electoral rolls, which is being held for the first time since Article 370 was repealed.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration, on the other hand, issued a clarification, claiming that the stories were a distortion of facts by entrenched interests and that the rise in numbers would be due to voters turning 18 by October 1, 2022.
