JK Govt accords sanction to Rs 386 Cr Project

JAMMU Tawi, Jun 09: To overcome the ever increasing traffic load in Jammu City and also to streamline the traffic, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has started ground work for another flyover here starting from Akhnoor road near Pawan Ice-cream right upto BC Road ending near Shakuntala Theatre.
The J&K Government, according to the sources, has accorded administrative approval for the project costing around Rs 386 crores. The Project will be completed keeping in view various traffic congestion points and diversions so that commoners do not face any inconvenience.
As the premier hospital of this region, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), is at the middle of this proposed flyover, the authorities have also decided to make a fully dedicated link road so that the people in need of emergency do not get troubled and reach the hospital well in time, they informed the Northlines.
It may be mentioned here that the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHADC) has already constructed a flyover from Bhagwati Nagar to Muthi.
Now, this flyover will be extended from Pawan Ice-cream right upto Shakuntala Theatre at BC Road. The proposed flyover from Akhnoor Road starting from near Pawan Ice cream right upto Shakuntla Theatre will cover crowded traffic areas of main markets of Bakshi Nagar and Mahesh Pura.
Keeping this in view, the authorities have also proposed several diversions and check points. This flyover has been designed in such a way so that the traffic congestion eases in the city.
The sources said that ground work for this new flyover has been started and the project is expected to be to completed within one and a half year.
The authorities have also started the process for clearing the encroachments from Akhnoor road leading right upto Shakuntla Theater BC Road, sources said.
