Jammu Tawi, January 23 (KIP):-Security forces, including the police, face a
challenge from militants and their supporters who plan to disrupt
Republic Day celebrations being held in Sheri Kashmir stadium in
Srinagar. Though the Governor, N. N. Vohra,is to unfurl the tricolor in
Jammu still militants backed by Pakistan eye Srinagar cricket stadium
where the main function is to be held.
And in order to prevent militants from disturbing the main
function additional police and security companies have been deployed
in and around Srinagar city. In fact the security forces are on high
alert and have been told to intensify patrolling that too round the
clock to see that situation is under control. In addition to this the
Army and the BSF guarding the LOC and the IB, have been told to remain
on a high alert and foil ingress bids.
Security has been beefed up across Kashmir in the run up to January
26 with the forces keeping a tight vigil in areas of Srinagar and
adjoining areas. The main January 26 function will be held at
Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium.
According to sources forces are conducting area domination, foot
patrolling and vehicle checking at many places in Srinagar. In order
to prevent militants from entering Srinagar city, a police officer
said: “Areas that border Srinagar always remain under focus.”
On Saturday some militants reportedly escaped a police checkpoint at
Awantbhawan near Soura in outskirts on Srinagar following inputs about
their movement.
Reports said that militants, who were travelling in a car, fired at the
police's Special Operations Group and managed to escape from the
