Srinagar, Dec 15: National Conference MP and Rajya Sabha member Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan has urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to include Anantnag Railway Station as a scheduled halt for the Vande Bharat Express, citing public inconvenience and regional importance.
In a letter written on December 12, Ramzan said Anantnag is a major administrative, commercial and tourism hub of South Kashmir, serving a large population from adjoining districts. He noted that while the Vande Bharat services have improved rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, the absence of a stoppage at Anantnag has caused hardship to daily commuters and travelers.
Describing Anantnag as the “Gateway to South Kashmir,” the MP highlighted its vital role in tourism, horticulture and trade. He said a halt at the station would significantly enhance regional connectivity, promote tourism and give a boost to the local economy.
Ramzan, who is also a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs, requested the Railway Minister to consider the long-pending public demand in the larger public interest.
He expressed hope that the request would receive favourable consideration from the Railways.
