“Nation Stands With Nowgam Blast Victims’ Families,” Says LoP Sunil Sharma

Srinagar, Nov 16: BJP senior leader and Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Sunday visited the family of tailor Muhammad Shafi—one of the victims of the Nowgam Police Station blast—to offer condolences and explain how the tragedy unfolded.

Sharma said the explosion took place around 11:20 pm while highly inflammable explosive material recovered from Faridabad was being examined at the Nowgam Police Station, where the initial FIRs had been registered. The recovered substance, reportedly around 360 kg in its first consignment, was being inspected by FSL experts, Crime Branch personnel, and local police teams.

Muhammad Shafi had been called to assist with sealing the material when, due to an apparent lapse, the explosives detonated, killing 10 people and injuring 28 others, Sharma said.

Expressing deep grief, he noted that condolences had been conveyed by the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and BJP leadership. Acting on directions from the central leadership, Sharma and former BJP president Ravinder Raina are visiting the affected families.

“We met Muhammad Shafi’s children, shared their pain, and assured them of every possible support,” Sharma said. (Agencies)
