Recalls Article 370 Abrogation a defining National Milestone
New Delhi, Apr 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains firmly committed to its core ideological agenda, stating that the “mission is still ongoing” on key issues such as the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and ‘One Nation, One Election’, with serious discussions underway and notable progress achieved.
Addressing BJP workers virtually on the party’s 47th Foundation Day, Modi highlighted the party’s long-standing commitment to structural reforms and inclusive governance. He underlined that the BJP-led government is determined to implement the Women’s Reservation Act, which seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, by the 2029 general elections.
Taking a swipe at the Congress, the Prime Minister recalled the hardships faced by BJP workers during the Emergency and alleged political oppression in states like West Bengal and Kerala. He said many workers had made the ultimate sacrifice in the face of politically motivated violence.
Modi emphasized that the BJP’s governance model is distinct, rooted in stability, service, and a “nation first” principle. He reiterated that the party’s vision is to build a developed and self-reliant India, while addressing challenges like corruption, infiltration, demographic imbalance, and dynastic politics.
Listing major achievements, Modi cited the repeal of obsolete colonial-era laws, the construction of the new Parliament building, 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections, the ban on triple talaq, the Citizenship Amendment Act, and the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Significantly, he referred to the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, describing it as a historic step that removed a long-standing barrier to the full integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country. “People believed it was impossible, but we fulfilled our promise,” he said, reaffirming the BJP’s consistent stand on national security and unity.
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s evolving global role, stressing that the country now maintains strong relations with nations worldwide, guided by the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
Highlighting the BJP’s growth since its formation in 1980, Modi said the party has expanded steadily due to its commitment to service-oriented politics. He credited grassroots workers for strengthening the party and connecting people with its ideology.
Reiterating the government’s forward-looking approach, Modi said efforts are ongoing to prepare India for future challenges while continuing to serve the people with dedication and integrity.
