New Delhi: The Union home ministry will formulate a comprehensive policy for the integration of former Agniveers into the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, Ranjan said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has constituted a committee at its headquarters to prepare an action plan on the issue and submit it to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

“This is a policy matter of the Ministry of Home Affairs. It will be done in consultation with the Central Armed Police Forces. The MHA will come out with a proper policy, which we all will follow,” the CISF chief said.

He added that the committee formed at the force level is examining various aspects of integrating Agniveers, including their deployment, proportion and areas of utilisation, details of which will be laid down by the MHA.

Citing an example, Ranjan said Agniveers with experience in the Navy could be particularly relevant for CISF duties related to seaport security.

The Agnipath recruitment scheme was rolled out by the government in June 2022 with the objective of reducing the age profile of the Army, Air Force and Navy.

Under the scheme, candidates aged between 17-and-a-half and 21 years are enrolled as Agniveers for a four-year tenure, with 25 per cent retained for a further 15 years of service, while the remaining 75 per cent exit after the initial term.

The government has already reserved 10 per cent of jobs for former Agniveers in all future constable-level recruitments across the 11 lakh-strong CAPFs, including the CRPF, BSF, CISF, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Sashastra Seema Bal. (Agencies)
