Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a high-level meeting recently to assess work on the bulk drug park being developed in Haroli area of Una district. The multi-crore project is envisioned to boost industry and job creation in the region.
Spread over 570 hectares, the drug park is slated to have various facilities like a common effluent treatment plant, solid waste management unit, laboratory testing centre, emergency response centre etc. Its development is estimated to cost Rs. 1,923 crore.
Reviewing progress, the Chief Minister directed officials to expedite processes like tendering and complete all formalities within scheduled timeframes. He acknowledged the park's potential to generate revenue and employment for local youth.
To ensure it is commissioned without delay, Sukhu announced the state government would supplement funds provided by Centre if needed. It will also cover operational expenses for the initial 10 years of operations.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan and Education Minister Rohit Thakur offered suggestions to enhance the viability and industry-friendliness of the project.
Once functional, the bulk drug park is set to attract pharmaceutical manufacturing units and ancillary industries. This will give a major boost to the state's drug and pharmaceutical sector.
