The Indian Government has selected Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi to take over the top post of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) from the incumbent General Manoj Pande. According to official sources, Dwivedi who is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) will assume charge of his new role effective from June 30th in the afternoon. He will succeed General Pande who will demit office on the same day after completing his full term as the head of the 1.3 million strong Indian Army.
As VCOAS, Dwivedi brings with him vast experience of over 37 years of service in the Army. He is well-versed in all important matters relating to India’s border security, national defence preparedness and modernization of the armed forces. Under his able leadership, the Indian Army is expected to further strengthen its capabilities while continuing to serve the nation with utmost dedication and professionalism. The smooth transition of command will ensure continuity of higher defence management and allow the Army to focus on its core mandates.
