LS takes up Bill extending data collection mechanism in J&K

NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha today took up the Collection of Statistics (Amendment) Bill, 2017 that seeks to extend the Statistics Act of 2008 to and with a BJP MP maintaining that the move is path-breaking and it will go a long way in integrating the militancy hit State with the mainstream.

Piloting the Bill in the House, Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda said the Bill will help “strengthen data collection mechanism” in Jammu & Kashmir.

It will also empower the Central Government and each State Government to designate one of its officers as nodal officer to coordinate and supervise the statistical activities and to exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be made by rules.
