LG hands over job letter to Aadil’s widow

Pahalgam, Jun 14: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday visited the residence of Syed Aadil Hussain, a victim of the tragic April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, and handed over a government job appointment letter to his widow, Gulnaz Akhter.

Syed Aadil Hussain was among 26 civilians—mostly tourists—who lost their lives in April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Aadil, a local resident, was hailed for his selfless efforts to save tourists during the attack. Aadil tried to snatch the rifle of terrorists during the chaos, ultimately sacrificing his own life in the process. He was also the family’s sole breadwinner.

“The whole country is proud of the bravery of Adil. The Government job to martyr Adil’s wife symbolizes our deep gratitude to the brave civilian who sacrificed his life while protecting tourists at Pahalgam on 22nd April,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Speaking to reporters after the visit at Hapatnard, LG Manoj Sinha as per news agency—said, “This visit is a solemn commitment. We had assured the family of all possible support, and today’s step reflects our efforts to stand by them in this hour of grief.”

He emphasized that the government has not only provided financial assistance through the Ministry of Home Affairs and J&K administration but also coordinated with several state governments who extended additional help to the bereaved family.

“I visited the home of Aadil, who lost his life in a terrorist attack while saving tourists. Today, his wife has been given a permanent job to honour his sacrifice and ensure the family doesn’t face financial hardship,” LG Sinha stated.

The Lieutenant Governor personally handed over the government job appointment letter to Gulnaz Akhter, the widow of Syed Aadil Hussain. The job is a permanent government position, Class IV (MTS) in Fisheries Department.

LG Sinha assured full government support to Gulnaz and her children, reiterating that the administration remains committed to supporting the families of terror victims.

“We wanted to come personally and meet the family, offer condolences, and ensure they know they are not alone in this tragedy,” he added.

Attack along with the killing of Aadil was widely condemned. The government has already appointed his brother in the Waqf board earlier.

    NC vies for the credit

Srinagar, Jun 14: Apparently miffed at Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor handing over a job letter to the widow of Adil Shah, the ponywala killed in the Pahalgam attack, the ruling NC on Saturday said the appointment letter was already prepared by the state government’s Fisheries Department.

In a post on X, National Conference chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said, “In moments of pain, politics must make way for compassion, and governance must honour its word”.

“We thank LG Sahab for handing over the job order that was already prepared by the Fisheries Department, a department under the elected government led by Minister Javed Dar,” Sadiq said.

“This reflects the maturity and responsibility shown by the elected government, we did not allow egos to come in the way, but stood by our commitment to Adil’s family in their moment of grief,” he added.

Sadiq highlighted that the state government had earlier given similar appointment letters to the kin of those killed in Pakistan shelling in Poonch.

“The job orders were later distributed by the home minister after the CM had personally visited and personally committed these jobs to the (affected) families immediately after the shelling,” Sadiq, who is also an MLA from Zadibal constituency, said.

Earlier in the day, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha handed over the appointment letter to Shah’s wife, Gulnaz Akhter, at their house in the Hapatnar area of Pahalgam in Anantnag district.

Sinha told reporters that the government job for Akhter was a symbol of gratitude from the administration to her husband’s valour. (Agencies)
