Law n’ order in JK has improved: Govt

In a written reply to an unstarred question by Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu, Ahir said that only 583 cases of law and order were registered in the first six months of 2017, compared to 2867 cases of previous year.

The Union Home Ministry has claimed that situation in the strife torn state of and has improved in 2017 compared to the previous year. This was stated by Minister of State (MoS) for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir in the upper house of Parliament.

In a written reply to an unstarred question by Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu, Ahir said that only 583 cases of law and order were registered in the first six months of 2017, compared to 2867 cases of previous year.

Congress leader P Chidambaram slammed the government on its inability to reign terror in the state, “Congress repudiates Centres claim of normalcy, they must disclose measures being taken to bring about normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. Government claim defies belief and common sense. Statement made by government is misleading and at variance with situation on the ground. Since July 10, casualties have been reported everyday. Eight pilgrims, 6 jawans and 1 child have been killed. There have been several clashes of people with security forces have been reported.”

Meanwhile the junior minister of home stated steps taken to improve law and order include arrest and preventive custody of 12650 miscreants and separatist since 2016. Ahir also said that government is open to dialogue with those who are willing to abjure violence and are willing to work within the framework of Indian Constitution.

Ahir also stated that separatist and trouble mongers have been kept under close surveillance to check the anti activities. The state of Jammu and Kashmir is also promoting event, community policing, counseling of miscreants, which are some initiatives taken by the police. Other steps taken include additional recruitment of 10,000 SPO's, recruitment of 5381 personnel in 5 new India Reserve Battalion, re-recruitment of 1079 personnel in paramilitary and Assam Rifles, Special Industry initiative and Skill development and scholarship schemes.
