As the counting day has finally come to decide which party and person will enter J&K Assembly after getting the mandate, it becomes imperative for the electorate this time to make sure that transparency and accountability should not be lost like in the past. Previously, governments formed by the power of voting used to forget the promises made in the run up to elections as the selected public representatives deviate from what has been promised, leaving the population lurching for even the basic rights and amenities.
As today in 2024, the social media is all powerful as it could be termed as omnipotent, therefore it is necessary that the people should keep handy all the manifestos and if possible the statements and videos of the political personalities to ensure accountability on their part.
It is the bounded duty of all the parties to respect and fulfill the promises made ahead of polling, especially those who will get the seat of power in the UT Assembly. The awareness of the voters in this regard is quite significant because every U-turn or denial of providing the things which were promised publicly should be brought before the society to expose the duplicity of the elected members of the legislature. The use of party manifestos as ready reckoners will help the people to get everything which they aspired to while supporting a candidate or a party during the electoral process, especially the voting.
The point to ponder is, when the political parties can make use of social media to expose the fake narratives and lies of their counterpart parties then why not people can rely on social media to bring to fore the unfulfilled promises of the party or persons coming to power to get their rightful entities including the facilities, amenities and civic edifice. This seems to be a small thing but if carried out in a systematic way can bring revolution in the region because it won’t be easy for the political parties to say no to what was promised by them in full view and in black and white prior to polls.
Instead of complaining and doing nothing, the people should take this route, which is expected to be fruitful and swift because no one in the upcoming government would afford to face such an embarrassment.
