Srinagar, Dec 7: After recording the coldest night of the season, temperatures improved slightly across Kashmir on Saturday, though they remained below freezing.
The Meteorological Center in Srinagar reported that Shopian, located in the southern part of the Valley, was the coldest spot, with temperatures dropping to minus 4.5°C. The popular tourist destination of Pahalgam also saw a low of -4.3°C.
In the summer capital, Srinagar, the minimum temperature was recorded at -2°C, an improvement from the previous night’s -4.1°C, which marked the coldest night of the season.
Gulmarg, the ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of -2.6°C, while Kupwara saw the mercury fall to -3.6°C. Zojila, the mountain pass that connects Kashmir to Ladakh, reported a frigid -19°C.
In the Jammu region, Banihal was the only station to report temperatures below freezing, with a low of -0.4°C. Other areas in the region experienced milder temperatures: Jammu city recorded 8.1°C, Katra 7.4°C, Batote 3.1°C, and Bhaderwah 0.6°C.
The MeT department has forecast light snow or rain in isolated areas of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, with dry weather expected to persist until December 12.
