Jammu Tawi, Apr 25: For the first time, the map of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) will now be available in Hindi and Urdu, the official languages, as the government has constituted a high level committee on the directions of the Lieutenant Governor (LG), Manoj Sinha.
The high level committee will look into the authenticity of the names various places of J&K with respect to their pronunciation in both Hindi and Urdu before finalizing the J&K’s map in both Hindi and Urdu, official sources said.
The Director of Geo Special Directorate of J&K and Ladakh has been assigned the duty of convener of this high level committee.
Special Secretary of Planning and Development Department, Ghulam Ahmad Dar, Professor in Hindi Department of Jammu University, Dr Anu Sharma and Assistant Professor in Urdu Department of Kashmir University, Dr Mushtaq Hussain are also the members of the high level committee tasked to prepare J&K’s map in both Hindi and Urdu.
The committee has been assigned the task to name the various places of J&K in Hindi and Urdu in the map of J&K so that these reflect the same in the government records/notifications as is already there in English and make sure that the names of various places are pronounced perfectly in both Hindi and Urdu.
The government believes that this step will make sure that people more and necessary information in local languages besides making sure that transparency comes up in the government records.
