J&K Likely To Witness Erratic Weather With Rain, Snow Over Three Days

Srinagar, Apr 3: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience erratic weather from Friday to Sunday, with peak activity expected on April 4, the Meteorological (MeT) Department said on Friday.

The MeT office forecast light to moderate rain and snow across many areas between April 3 and April 5, 2026, with thunder, hailstorms, and gusty winds of 30-50 kmph at scattered places, especially in the afternoon on Friday.

Rain and snow are expected to continue on April 4 across the Valley and Jammu division, while conditions may improve slightly on April 5 with partly cloudy skies and isolated light rain.

Authorities warned of potential landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable regions, particularly along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Farmers and orchardists were advised to suspend spraying and other operations during April 3-4 due to anticipated rain and high winds.

A sharp drop in daytime temperatures is expected, and the weather is likely to remain unsettled, with another possible rain/snow spell between April 7-9.

Minimum temperatures recorded on Friday included Srinagar at 11.2°C, Gulmarg 4°C, Pahalgam 6.2°C, Jammu 19.8°C, Katra 19°C, Batote 13.5°C, Banihal 12.1°C, and Bhaderwah 10°C.

After a dry winter, February and March brought adequate rainfall and snowfall, raising water levels in rivers, streams, lakes, springs, and wells, easing earlier concerns about drinking water and irrigation. (Agencies)
