Srinagar, Jul 7: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed in a joint anti-terror operation by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, police said.
The operation, which began on July 3, was launched in the dense orchards of the Meemandar area, comprising seven villages in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, following inputs about the presence of terrorists.
Confirming the killing, Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a post on X, “You Can Run But You Can’t Hide! One Lashkar terrorist neutralised by SOG Shopian, in a Jt Op, along with RR and CRPF.”
A joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, the Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles and 44 Rashtriya Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) maintained a tight cordon around the area for five days, during which intermittent exchanges of fire took place with the holed-up terrorists.
Officials had earlier identified the trapped terrorists as Latif and Zakir. The identity of the slain terrorist was not immediately confirmed. (Agencies)
