Jammu Tawi: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, five alleged drug peddlers were arrested with heroin worth lakhs of rupees from various locations in Udhampur, Kathua, and Jammu districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, according to police.
The first two arrests were made at Rehambal on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, where Nikhil Sharma (alias Nipun) and Charanjeet Singh (alias Monu), both wanted drug peddlers, were apprehended. Police recovered 6.1 grams of heroin from their private vehicle during routine checking.
In a separate operation near Tikri in Udhampur, Rajrupinder Singh, another wanted drug peddler, was arrested after 7.38 grams of heroin was found in his possession. He was intercepted while walking from the Katra side and subjected to frisking by the police.
Further, Darshan Singh was arrested from Galak village in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district, where 1.7 grams of heroin was seized from him.
In another case, Naresh Kumar (alias Kutti) was arrested near the Border Police Post in Chakroi, Suchetgarh, Jammu district, with 3.08 grams of heroin in his possession.
Four separate cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the arrested individuals. Investigations are ongoing.
