Incriminating Material Linked to Banned JKIM Seized in Sopore

Srinagar, Sept 19:  The Jammu and Kashmir Police today carried out a search in Sopore sub-district in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and claimed to have seized incriminating material linked to the banned J&K Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM), officials said.

The search was carried out in continuation of efforts by the police to dismantle the separatist terror ecosystem.

Police said the searches were conducted in a 2025 case registered under the UAPA. The searches were conducted at the residence of Ghulam Ahmad Rather of Saidpora, Sopore, in the presence of an executive magistrate to ensure legal compliance and transparency, they said.

“During the search, incriminating material linked to Ittihadul Muslimeen, a proscribed organization under UAPA, was recovered and seized. Further investigation is underway to identify the broader network and establish links to the banned outfit,” police said.

“This action reflects Sopore police’s unwavering commitment to act firmly against individuals or networks involved in separatist or terror linked activities. Sopore Police reiterates that no element attempting to disturb peace or threaten national sovereignty will be spared,” they said.

Ittihadul Muslimeen, a moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference, was banned by the union Home Ministry in March this year.
