Former Prez Kovind recalls Gandhi’s praise for RSS discipline and social equality

Nagpur, Oct 2:  Former President Ram Nath Kovind today lauded the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for its century-long work in nation-building, recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s remarks on the discipline and social equality observed in the organisation.

The former President who was the chief guest at the RSS’s annual Vijayadashami celebration here, cited Gandhi’s visit to an RSS rally in Delhi in 1947 where he noted the absence of caste-based discrimination and appreciated the Sangh’s anti-untouchability stand since the time of its founder Dr. K.B. Hedgewar.

“Gandhi observed the brotherhood among RSS volunteers, their discipline and commitment to social equality. He had also acknowledged Dr. Hedgewar’s work for eradicating untouchability,” Kovind said.

Kovind concluded his speech by appealing for unity and harmony in society, saying collective effort was essential for national progress.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and several dignitaries across India and abroad were present on the occasion.
