    Former MP Ladakh Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan dies at 88

    JAMMU, Dec 17: Former two-time Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh and retired DIG, Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 88 at his residence in Bathandi, Jammu.

    Born on December 11, 1936, in Simloo village, Batalik, in the Kargil district of Ladakh, Khan had a distinguished career in both law enforcement and politics. He retired as a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and later emerged as a prominent political figure in the region.

    Khan served as a Member of Parliament for Ladakh in the 13th and 15th Lok Sabha in 1999 and 2009, respectively. He first contested on a National Conference ticket in 1999 and later as an independent candidate in 2009. Khan is widely remembered for his selfless contributions and significant role in the development of Ladakh.

    He is survived by his wife, son Feroz Ahmed Khan, the former Chief Executive Councilor of LAHDC Kargil and a sitting Councilor, and two daughters.

    His passing is a loss to both the political and social communities of Ladakh.
