Every Possible Measure Taken To Ensure Peace In Srinagar: IG CRPF

SRINAGAR, Nov 22: Inspector General of CRPF P. K. Sharma on Saturday said that every possible measure has been taken to maintain a secure and peaceful atmosphere in Srinagar as the Third CRPF Cricket Tournament began.

Speaking to reporters, the IG said the tournament has been organised annually since 2023 during November–December to engage youth and promote sports culture.

He said around 123 teams from Srinagar, Baramulla and Ganderbal expressed interest this year, but due to time limitations, a draw was held and 16 teams were shortlisted. The event is being organised in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, with grounds provided by the University of Kashmir.

Sharma said the focus is on youth participation, adding that age categories below 19 and 23 have been prioritised. “Kashmir has immense cricketing talent and enthusiasm. Through sports, we want to strengthen peace, harmony and build a positive connect with the youth,” he said.

On security arrangements, the IG said CRPF, along with J&K Police, the Army and the civil administration, is working jointly to ensure peace in Srinagar. “I won’t go into details since today is a sports event, but every possible measure has been taken,” he said.

He added that the CRPF has been serving in the region for 35 years and its coordination with the people continues to strengthen. (KNO)
