Erratic Power Cuts

Date:

There is nothing new for the people in Province who are used to facing prolonged power cuts (scheduled and unscheduled) since ages, as the region has again entered a difficult phase of irking power cuts after day and night temperatures  witnessed steep rise.

The people in the Union Territory were quite contented last year when information regarding an agreement to get additional power supply during the peak season hogged the headlines of the newspapers but looking at the present scenario, it seems that things were only meant for publicity as erratic power cuts have again hit the region with people finding no place for solace during the prevailing severe heat wave as declared by the MeT Department.

Reportedly, the JPDCL has announced new power cuts in different parts of Jammu division. As per a circular of the Corporation, the power supply to Ramsoo, Neel, Ukhral, Khari and adjoining areas will remain affected on May 22, 23 and 24 from 9 am to 5 pm while power supply to Shakti Nagar, Patel Nagar, Kailash Nagar, Gurha Bakshi Nagar, Canal Road, Rajpura, Shiv Nagar, Polytechnic College, CID Office, Mohinder Nagar, Palm Island, Pawan Ice Cream and adjoining areas was affected on May 22 from 8 am to 12 noon. This is not enough because similar was the case in Company Bagh, Chand Nagar, Ware House, Krishna Nagar, Jewel, Residency Road, Gurudwara Sunder Singh Road and adjoining areas which saw power cut today from 9 am to 12 noon while power supply to Manjakote, Gambhir, Dassal, Tandwal, Katarmal, Patrara, Gambhir Mughlan,  Premnagar, Thatri, Dhara, Gundoh, Bhatyas, Changa and adjoining areas will remain affected on May 23 from 8 am to 2 pm. Apart from these, unannounced cuts are also being witnessed in many parts of the region making the life of the people miserable.

It is the need of the hour that the administration should wake up from deep slumber and take needful steps to provide uninterrupted power supply to people especially in those areas which are metered and have no dues pending.

The big question is why the helmsmen are not attending to the problem when the populace has been hit hard due to power outage spells despite knowing well in time that there would be a heat wave in the region?
