DNA Test Confirms Pulwama Doctor Drove Car in Red Fort Blast: Police Sources

NEW DELHI, Nov 13: In a major breakthrough in the Red Fort blast probe, DNA test results have confirmed that Dr Umar Nabi was driving the car that exploded near the historic monument earlier this week, police sources said on Thursday.

Samples collected from the blast site were matched with those of Umar’s mother, taken on Tuesday and sent for forensic analysis, officials said. “The DNA results confirm that it was indeed Umar who was driving the fateful vehicle,” a source revealed.

Umar, a resident of Koil village in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, was a key operative of a “white-collar” terror module recently busted by security agencies. The group was linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, police said.

The blast occurred just hours after investigators dismantled the module and arrested eight suspects, including three doctors. The explosion, which tore through a slow-moving white car near the Red Fort, killed 12 people and injured 30 others.

Authorities later recovered nearly 3,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulphur from locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, as part of the ongoing investigation into the terror network. (Agencies)
