NEW DELHI, June 14: A massive fire broke out at a restaurant in Delhi’s Kalkaji area early Sunday, triggering explosions in three commercial LPG cylinders and prompting a major firefighting and rescue operation, officials said.
The blaze erupted around 4:45 a.m. at the Punjabi Tadka restaurant near the Govindpuri flyover. As the fire spread rapidly through the building, the Delhi Fire Service initially deployed six fire tenders before upgrading the incident to a Make-4 fire and sending additional units to the spot.
According to fire officials, the flames engulfed the basement, ground floor and upper floors of the building, including a temporary structure on the terrace. During the operation, three commercial LPG cylinders exploded, causing panic in the area.
A 75-year-old woman, identified as Sita Devi, was trapped on the second floor when the fire broke out. Firefighters carried out a challenging rescue operation and safely evacuated her from the building.
In total, nine fire units, including water tenders, a water bowser, a breathing support unit and multipurpose vehicles, were deployed to contain the blaze.
The fire has been brought under control and cooling operations are underway. No casualties were reported. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, officials said. (Agencies)
