LONDON, Sep 20: A cyberattack on a service provider for check-in and boarding systems caused major disruptions at several prominent European airports on Saturday, including London Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin, leading to flight delays and cancellations that affected thousands of passengers.
Collins Aerospace, which operates the affected systems for airlines and airports globally, reported ongoing technical issues linked to the attack. Heathrow Airport warned departing passengers of probable delays and urged travelers to monitor flight status closely.
Brussels Airport confirmed that automated check-in and boarding services were down, forcing staff to handle passengers manually. “This has a large impact on the flight schedule and will unfortunately cause delays and cancellations… The service provider is actively working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible,” the airport said.
Berlin Airport similarly reported longer waiting times at check-in due to the technical issues and assured passengers that a solution was being worked on. Passengers were advised to confirm their journeys with airlines before traveling.
Not all major European hubs were affected. Frankfurt and Zurich airports reported normal operations, with officials confirming no disruptions at their facilities.
