    Crime Branch Jammu registers cheating case involving Rs 15.15 Lakhs

    Jammu Tawi: The Special Crime Wing, Crime Branch Jammu has registered a formal case under Section 420 RPC on the basis of a written complaint lodged by a resident of Shaheedi Chowk, Bawe Wali Gali, Jammu.

    In his complaint, the complainant alleged that one Mehraj Din S/o Late Abdul Gani R/o c/o Mehraj Halal Meat Shop, Talab Khatika, Jammu, fraudulently and dishonestly induced him to advance a substantial amount of money on the pretext of running his business, with repeated assurances of early repayment. Relying on these assurances, the complainant advanced a total amount of ₹15,15,000/- to the accused at different intervals.

    It was further alleged that after receiving the amount, the accused avoided repayment on one pretext or another. Later, he issued one Cheque for liquidation of his liability. However, the accused subsequently requested the complainant not to present the cheque for encashment, assuring repayment of the entire amount in cash within a short period. Trusting the accused, the complainant did not deposit the cheque, which later expired.

    Despite repeated demands, the accused neither repaid the amount nor honoured his commitments and when the complainant personally approached the accused for repayment, he allegedly refused to pay and threatened the complainant with dire consequences in case he pursued the matter further.

    On receipt of the complaint, a preliminary verification was conducted, which revealed that the accused, by adopting fraudulent means and misrepresentation of facts, dishonestly misappropriated the complainant’s money in the meat supply business and cheated him of ₹15,15,000/-. The acts and omissions on the part of the accused prima facie disclosed the commission of offence punishable under Section 420 RPC.

    Accordingly, a formal case has been registered at Police Station Special Crime Wing, Crime Branch Jammu against the accused. Further investigation of the case has been entrusted to Inspector Kali Charan, I/O, SCW, Crime Branch Jammu.
