Chinese National Arrested for Illegal Entry, Filming Sensitive Border Area in UP

Bahraich: A 49-year-old Chinese national, identified as Liu Quinjing, was arrested after allegedly entering India illegally and videographing sensitive areas near the Rupaidiha checkpost on the India–Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, officials said on Tuesday. He was intercepted during a routine check by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and later handed over to police.

According to SSB officials, Liu was found without valid documents required to enter India. Three mobile phones were seized from his possession, one of which contained videos of sensitive Indian locations. Officials also recovered a map of Nepal with English markings, though Liu claimed—through gestures—that he did not understand English or Hindi.

Interrogation through an interpreter revealed that Liu had recently travelled to Pakistan and possessed Pakistani, Chinese, and Nepalese currency. Although he had a valid visa for Pakistan, officials said his travel history, illegal entry, and filming of restricted areas made him a suspect.

Initial investigation found that Liu arrived in Nepal on November 15 on a tourist visa from China and crossed into India illegally via Nepalgunj on November 24. A case has been registered against him under the Foreigners Act, and further investigation is underway. (Agencies)
