Center Strips NEET Grace Marks from 1,563 Students, Announces Re-Exam on June 23.

As the ongoing NEET UG 2024 row garnered national attention, new developments have come to light during a crucial Supreme Court hearing. According to statements issued by the Centre, over 1,500 medical aspirants will see changes to their initial exam scores.

Representatives from the Ministry of Education and testing body NTA updated the apex court on their investigations into allegations of unfair practices during the prestigious entrance tests earlier this year. It was revealed that certain candidates had portions of the question paper timing shortened due to technical difficulties at select exam centres. As a goodwill gesture, grace marks were awarded to counter the disadvantage.

However, an expert committee was convened to analyze grievances received and recommend necessary steps. Their report found the grace mark system needed review to ensure complete transparency and fairness. Acting on this, the Centre declared that scorecards of the 1,563 affected students will now be cancelled. They will have the option to participate in a retest, allowing a level playing field for all.

Additionally, the re-exam is scheduled for June 23rd with results two weeks later on June 30th. Counselling sessions for admission will continue as planned from July 6th onward to minimize disruption to the academic year. The prerogative to accept original marks or retake was left to individual candidates to respect their autonomy.

The Supreme Court acknowledged the proactive measures taken and stressed no student will face undue problems. All pending petitions on the matter will be addressed on July 8th after due process. With both testing authorities and apex court focusing on integrity, India’s medical aspirants can be assured of a rigorous yet sympathetic selection process.
