Around 70% of staff to be deployed will be teachers, Govt collects details of all education employees

JAMMU Tawi, Apr 20: The Government has now finally geared up for the Census 2027 and the intense exercise in this regard has begun in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir as all the details of the government employees of J&K to be deployed for various census duties all across this UT have been collected by the government.
Among the staff to be deployed for various census duties in J&K, the employees of the education department will be in the majority, reliable sources said.
“Around 70% of the government employees/staff to be deployed for different census duties in the UT of J&K will be from the education department and most of them will be the teachers,” reliable sources informed the Northlines.
They further informed that the government has already prepared a list of the teachers and other employees of the education department of the J&K UT including the number of males and females, their place of posting, their experience and their conduct in discharging their official duty.
Reliable sources also informed that the training of the staff to be deployed for census in J&K will also commence within a week for smooth conduct of the exercise.
The Census 2027 exercise in J&K will feature a digital two-phase approach. House listing Operations (HLO) and self-enumeration will start from May to June 2026, while population
enumeration for snow-bound, non-synchronous areas of J&K is set for September 2026. The project includes caste enumeration, aimed at updating demographic, housing, and socioeconomic data.
The Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases, the first between April and September 2026 and the second in February 2027.
The two phases will be — Phase I-House Listing and Housing Census followed by Phase II–Population Enumeration (PE).
The first phase from April to September 2026 will be conducted in a period of 30 days in accordance with the convenience of State/UT Governments.
Population Enumeration (PE) will be done in February 2027 with reference date 00:00 hours of 1st March, 2027 except for the Union territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where it will be done in September, 2026 with reference date 00.00 hours of 1st October, 2026.
The census has a history of more than 150 years and this will be for the first time it will be conducted through digital means in which data will be collected through mobile apps along with online provision for self-enumeration.
