New Delhi, Jan 7: The Centre has fixed the period from April 1 to September 30, 2026, for house listing operations under Census 2027, involving a nationwide door-to-door survey to collect data on housing conditions and household amenities across states and Union Territories.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the house listing phase of the Census of India 2027 will be carried out within this six-month window, with each state and Union Territory conducting the exercise over a period of 30 days as per local requirements.
The notification also provides for an option of self-enumeration, which will be conducted for 15 days prior to the commencement of the house-to-house listing operations.
Officials said that while the overall timeline spans six months, the actual listing of houses in each state or Union Territory will be completed within a 30-day period, depending on prevailing conditions.
The Census of India is conducted every ten years. The last census was held in 2011, while the 2021 exercise was deferred due to the Covid-19 pandemic. (Agencies)
