Celebration Turns Ugly: Bride, Groom Attacked Over Liquor Row in MP

Gwalior, Apr 2: A wedding ceremony in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district turned violent after guests allegedly assaulted the bride, groom and their family for not serving alcohol, police said.

The incident occurred in Patai village under Aron police station limits when neighbours demanded liquor during the wedding celebrations. The dispute escalated after the groom refused, leading to a physical assault.

According to police, a group of neighbours arrived at the groom Mahesh Jatav’s residence on Tuesday night while wedding rituals were underway and demanded money to purchase alcohol.

When the demand was declined, the accused allegedly attacked family members, including the groom. The groom’s mother said she, her husband, and the bride were also assaulted when they tried to intervene.

The accused further allegedly looted cash and household items during the incident, prompting other guests to step in, which resulted in a clash between both sides.

Police said complaints have been received from both parties and an investigation is underway. The injured have undergone medical examination.

Officials stated that the violence stemmed from refusal to provide money for liquor, which triggered the confrontation between the wedding party and local residents. (Agencies)
