Business Leader Calls for Global Cooperation on AI Development

Date:

“Need for global guidelines on use of AI highlighted by top industry leader”

Artificial intelligence has potential to dramatically change many aspects of our lives but it needs global cooperation and principles to ensure its safe adoption. That was the view shared by Arundhati Bhattacharya, CEO of leading cloud computing firm Salesforce , who emphasized the need for collaboration on this emerging .

In a recent interview, Bhattacharya pointed out that AI transcends geographical boundaries which is why worldwide guidelines are important. “Just as issues like climate change require a global effort, AI too will impact everyone so we must work together on this,” she said. The former SBI chairperson believes agreements are necessary to leverage AI's benefits while preventing potential misuse.

When asked about how AI could affect India, Bhattacharya expressed confidence that it will be hugely enabling – particularly for delivery of citizen services. “By using AI, the government can reach more people in an affordable way. Things like healthcare diagnostics or skill-building can be scaled up across the country,” she elaborated. This tech can therefore fire up India's public systems and help ensure resources are distributed fairly to all, according to the leader.

While acknowledging AI's game-changing power, Bhattacharya also stressed the need for prudence. “As with any tool, it can be applied well or poorly. We need to ensure it is harnessed judiciously,” she said. The top executive advocates international cooperation and consensus to chart a responsible path for this technology going forward. If properly guided, AI has the power to massively benefit humanity. But its development must be steered carefully with peoples' interests in mind.
