Brother-sister duo arrested with heroin worth Rs 70 lakh in Jammu

Jammu, Jul 10: A brother-sister duo was arrested with 550 grams of heroin worth ₹70 lakh on the outskirts of Jammu city on Thursday, police said.

The accused, identified as Gurjeet Singh and Navneet Kour of Tanda village in R.S. Pura, were intercepted at the Balol checkpost in the Miran Sahib area during routine police checking. The heroin was recovered from their possession, and their scooty was seized, officials confirmed.

The narcotics have an estimated international market value of ₹70 lakh. A case has been registered against them at the Miran Sahib Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Notably, police revealed that the mother of the arrested duo was previously arrested by Punjab Police in a drug peddling case in June, raising suspicions of a family link to a larger narcotics network.

Interrogation of the accused is ongoing and expected to shed light on the source, destination, and supply chain of the drug consignment. Investigators have also initiated a financial probe to trace the proceeds of the narcotics trade, which may lead to further arrests and uncover deeper links within the drug distribution network in the region.

Authorities have intensified surveillance and checking in vulnerable border areas, emphasizing zero tolerance toward drug trafficking and organized narcotics crime. (Agencies)
