BRO Intensifies Snow Clearance After Heavy Snow Disrupts J&K Roads

JAMMU, Mar 20: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has intensified snow clearance operations across key routes in Jammu after heavy snowfall disrupted traffic movement, with efforts underway to restore connectivity on the Mughal Road and Basohli–Bani–Bhaderwah road.

Mughal Road, which connects Poonch and Rajouri districts with south Kashmir’s Shopian, was closed following heavy snowfall earlier this week. Officials said BRO teams are working round the clock to reopen the strategic route.

“Snow clearance is underway on Mughal Road in Poonch after heavy snowfall disrupted connectivity. The BRO’s 79 RCC team is engaged in continuous operations to restore traffic,” officials said.

They added that the 52 RCC unit has cleared the stretch from Hirpora to Peer Ki Gali, though fresh snowfall has made the operation challenging. The BRO’s Border Roads Task Force under Project Sampark also carried out a rescue operation to recover an SUV trapped in deep snow on the route.

On the Basohli–Bani–Bhaderwah road, clearance operations have been stepped up following fresh snowfall, while Doda district has remained cut off from Kathua for the past two days due to heavy snow accumulation.

Additional men and machinery have been deployed to expedite restoration of traffic, officials said.

Meanwhile, BRO teams are also engaged in clearing a major landslide at Malai Nallah on the Reasi–Mahore road. Multiple landslides at Chassana, Malai Nallah and Kansauli along the Reasi–Arnas–Mahore stretch have further hampered connectivity, with efforts ongoing to reopen the affected routes. (Agencies)
